Windows Server 2012 Lab - Part 3 - Installing Windows Server 2012 VM

So now we have a dedicated router(pfSense - 10.1.1.1/24) for our internal network (Server 2012 lab network), let us install a Windows Server 2012 virtual machine in VirtualBox.

We will install this VM in the same group that we have created in our first tutorial for our lab.

Please follow the images and instructions below.

From your VirtualBox menu, click "New".

I am opting to enter "Domain Controller" in the name, as we will call this Server 2012 VM as our main domain controller in the lab.

Choose "Microsoft Windows" as type, and choose "Windows 2012 (64 -bit)" for version and click "Next".

I opt to choose 2048 or 2 GB (2 x 1024) RAM for our VM and I believe that should be enough. We can increase the capacity anytime later if we find that our VM is slow.

Now, follow through the images below.

I am increasing the hard disk space from 25 GB to 45 GB for our VM as we may need space in this lab for our Windows Server 2012 Lab.

Now I am going to configure some settings for our Server 2012 VM.

I am renaming the name "Domain Controller" to "Domain Controller (Server 2012)". I think this would be easy for us to recognize more casually when we have a quick look at our VMs.

Choose "internal network" for the Network Adapter and the name will be "Windows Server 2012 Lab" which we have created in part 1.

Click "OK" after that and follow through the images below for further installation.

Select "Windows Server 2012 Standard" for our installation.

Enter a password of your choice.

Make sure that you have at least one Capital letter and one numeric in your password. And yes no special characters like !, @, #, $, % etc are not allowed due to password restriction policies in Windows Server 2012.

Click on the VM and press "Control + DEL" keys to activate "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" option. (A default in VirtualBox).

Enter your admin password and login. You will find the following screen.

In our next tutorial we will configure a static IP address for our Server and change some settings in network configuration and try to access pfSense from URL that we have configured.

Please leave your valuable comments and suggestions below if you have any.
